There are several different amplifier brands and models; they also come in different sizes and price tags. A 4000-watt amplifier is enough to upgrade your regular speaker by increasing its voltage and volume. You also do not need to be an expert when choosing a sound system. However, you have to be well-informed at least. Moreover, you have to know which amp best suits your car to avoid making costly mistakes.

Choosing which amp to buy could be challenging, especially if you are new to this and have no prior knowledge. For this reason, we have done the task of rounding up the best car amps and sorting the list down to the most efficient and popular models today.

There are several factors that you have to consider before you decide to cart that 4000-watt amp in your shopping bag:

Output Power:

An amplifier’s compatibility depends on the speaker and vice-versa. If an amplifier produces lower power than what your speaker requires, it could distort the signals. Moreover, if it exceeds the power requirements of your speaker, it could damage it. That is why it is essential to look at the electrical power of an amplifier. Additionally, check how much power it can supply so you know which one best suits your subwoofer and protect it from damage.

Signal to Noise Ratio:

The contrast between noise and output signal levels is measured in decibels. Moreover, the higher the parameter, the lower the noise levels and the better the sound quality.

Cost:

Many make the mistake of thinking that the more expensive the amp, the better it is. Furthermore, others blindly buy it due to the brand. We want to find the most affordable amplifier and compare it with higher-priced ones. However, we want to ensure that you get the best 4000 watt amp that offers value for money regardless of the cost.

Material Construction:

Different amps are made from different materials. An amplifier should be durable and should last you for several years. Also, you do not want to buy an amp that will wear out in a few months. What is worse is getting a damaged speaker days after hooking it up to your sound system. Additionally, check the material used for the speakers you are eyeing. Moreover, having speakers with fail-safe features is a plus.

What to Look for When Choosing the Best 4000 Watt Amp

What to Look for When Choosing the Best 4000 Watt Amp
Photo by Misael Moreno on Unsplash

Buying the best 4000 watt amp for your car audio systems is easy. You can buy one from a store or order one from your favorite online shopping site. However, finding one that matches your car speakers could be confusing.

It is crucial to verify the features of the amp you want to purchase. Do not make the mistake of buying an amp that is incompatible with your sound system. So, save yourself from the disappointment of buying the wrong amp. Below are some of the essential features to keep in mind before buying an amp.

●    Sound to Noise Ratio

Amplifiers have a tendency to create noise. It can be due to increasing heat or stray magnetic fields. Thus, a decent 4000-watt amp should have a high sound-to-noise ratio. That way, the background noise is almost unperceived, giving you clear and uninterrupted music.

●    Power Rating

Amplifiers have two power rating measurements, the peak power, and the Root Mean Square (RMS) power rating. The peak power measures the amount of energy produced by the amp over a short time. The RMS measures how much continuous power an amp can comfortably produce without getting damaged. Moreover, look at the RMS power rating, not the peak power, when choosing an amp. That will give you the actual power rating of the amp.

●    Durability

The durability of an amp would be determined by the material used to construct it. An amp made from aluminum alloy could last longer than one made from steel. Also, heatsink material will protect your amp from heating by trapping in heat, thus producing more power.

●    Quality Over Price

Price does not always determine the quality of the amp. Most 4000 watt amps are expensive. However, you can get a cheaper model with high power ratings to power your car’s speakers. Also, depending on how much you are willing to pay for the amp, get yourself a superior quality amp within your budget.

●    Warranty

Enquire if the amplifier model you want to purchase is under warranty. Get an amp that has a warranty period of at least one year. Moreover, some brands also have a return policy on their amps. It will guarantee you repair services if the amp develops a problem. Also, you can get a replacement if the amp does not work as promised.

●    Size

Choose an amp depending on where you plan to place it in your car. Amps come in different sizes; some are wide while others are compact. Some models are too big that they can only fit in the trunk. In addition, go for the smaller models if you want an amp you can quickly fix under your car seat.

●    RCA Preamp Outputs

Consider an amp with RCA preamp outputs if your car has multiple speakers that require more power. Thus, pairing two amps gives more power output for your speakers. If you are unsure which amps to pair, you can always ask the store or head to forums.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have provided answers to questions you will most likely encounter when looking for an amplifier for your car.

How many batteries do I need for a 4000-watt amp?

A 1000-watt amp requires one 12-volt battery. Therefore, a 4000-watt amp will need four 12-volt batteries.

How many RMS is a 4000-watt crunch amp?

A 4000-watt crunch amp has three RMS power ratings: 4 ohms at 1000 watts by 1 channel, 2 ohms at 2000 watts by 1 channel, and one ohm at 4000 watts by 1 channel.

Why do you need a car amp?

A car amp upgrades your car’s audio system. These amplifiers send car audio signals to the speakers, letting out high-quality bass. Cars have speakers, but they are not as efficient as an external amp in producing superior sound.

What do you do with old stereo equipment?

You can dispose of the equipment in hazardous waste designated areas. If the equipment is in good condition, you can donate it to an organization or an individual that may need it. Also, you can take it to the recycling plants for recycling. Moreover, you can also sell the stereo equipment to a pawn shop near you.

What is the difference between analog and digital sound?

Analog audio is produced by converting electric current into magnetic imprints on a magnetic tape. In contrast, digital audio is produced by recording different audio wave values multiple times per second.

What is the best wiring kit?

Wiring kits come in various forms and types. Moreover, a good wiring kit can transmit and receive signals from your stereo. A wiring kit should also have a pre-out to help you connect RCAs to transmitters. If it does not have the pre-outs, it should have inputs to connect with other wire speakers.

What wattage soundbar do I need?

Regular soundbars use 20 watts to 50 watts on their own. The wattage will increase if you add speakers and subwoofers. Additionally, the wattage soundbar you need will be determined by the number of speakers or subwoofers you add.

Where can I mount my amp?

Two of the safest places to mount an amp are in the trunk or under a car seat. These two places are most suitable because an amp requires an airy space to prevent overheating.

What wiring do I need for my amp?

Amps do not come with the necessary wiring. However, you can purchase an amp wiring kit from the stores to hook your amp.

How can I increase my amp’s wattage?

You can increase the wattage by pairing two amplifiers, thus doubling the power supply.

Conclusion

Audiophiles would agree that a good amplifier gives life to your music. Surround yourself with superior-quality sound, better audio, and deep bass with an amp. What other better way to do that than getting yourself the best 4000 watt amp?

Car amplifiers have gained global popularity because of their versatility and efficiency in creating better audio. Also, the main requirement for a great amp, which sounds excellent and is highly transparent, is not lots of power but high-efficiency loudspeakers. This is because the output voltage obtained is high while the output current remains low. Moreover, the more an amp uses its power supply to boost loudspeaker efficiency, the more power it gets.

Expert Tip

To avoid frustrations while connecting an amp to your speaker, ensure you get the right type and dimensions. You do not have to pay more to acquire a high-quality amp. Thus, buy the one within your budget, provided that it is a perfect match for your speakers.

Did You Know?

Did you know that most RMS amp ratings are overrated? You will only know this if you perform a dyno test. You will realize some amps do not come close to the RMS advertised. Furthermore, it would be wise to test your amp against your speaker to ensure it will work.

Best 1000 Watt Amp in 2022 – Reviews and Buyer’s Guide

best 1000 watt amp in 2022 - reviews and buyer’s guide

Are you tired of low sound quality even though you have paid hefty bucks on it? If yes, then you might have landed just at the right place. We can understand how annoying it can be for you to have a faulty amplifier that gives nothing but a squishy sound.

If you have been looking around for a good amplifier to complement your automobile’s subwoofers or speakers, then we have the best options for you.

How We Made This List

How We Made This List
Photo by Brock Wegner on Unsplash

The marketplace has enormous amplifiers and choosing the best fit might be hectic. However, considering the below points, you never have to worry about anything. After testing so many of them, we have compiled what to look for while buying an amplifier. So, let’s have a look over them.

●      Power Output

The amplifier receives the power; hence power output directly influences the working of the amp. The greater the power output, the louder the sound quality is evident. However, you never have to go out of the way. Sometimes a 10 W power is enough.

●      Signal-to-Noise Ratio

When an amplifier generates sound, it sometimes adds background noises as well. The signal-to-noise ratio should be as high as possible since a higher score means less background noise. So, we chose an amplifier having a high level of signal to noise ratio.

●      Input Impedance

Inputs and impedance show the amount of current and voltage flowing into the amplifier. Therefore, it is best to pick an amplifier with the maximum input impedance. However, make sure not to overpower it since it might heat up the system.

Rockford Fosgate Punch 1000 Watt amp

Check Latest Price

If you have been looking for an amplifier having five channels, then this Rockford Fosgate Monoblock amp is going to amaze you with the best results. It has some of the best features you would love to have along.

Initially, this amp had a five-channel system. So, this means you can supply power to your car speakers. Besides, as it has a max power output of 1000 W, that means it can provide some of the robust power systems out there. However, keep in mind that this 1000 W power is combined and not for each channel.

Talking about the design, it is much handier than any other previous models. However, it is significantly a bit longer and heavier, providing so much power. It is 15.1 inches long and 24 inches tall. At the same time, it weighs approximately 15.3 pounds.

If you are concerned about the inputs’ and outputs’ location, they are at an accessible place too. They are placed on the front and are protected using a plate made of aluminum, also known as a stealth control panel.

Miraculously this amp has an RCA included with low-level input. Plus, you don’t have to go through the hassle of lurking around for adapters to connect your radio to the amp. However, it does come with the stability of high-level signals for a better function.

Additionally, Rockford has digital as well as analog amplification. Also, this amp has four channels that feature an A-B amplification, even if there is a digital subchannel for the front and rear speakers.

Besides, these 4-channels come with variable, high-pass filters of 50 Hz to 250 Hz. Also, the low-pass filter ranges from 50 Hz – 250 Hz with a subsonic filter of 28 Hz and a bass boost of up to 18 dB.

KENWOOD 1000 W CAR Amplifier

Check Latest Price

Who doesn’t love Kenwood? The quality and performance it gives are just incredible. It is one of our favorites because of the economic size and features it delivers. For several decades, Kenwood has been a fantastic family member of the music equipment manufacturing sector.

This Kenwood car amplifier is capable of driving more than just component speakers. It’s also capable of working with small-medium subwoofers. The unit has four channels you can connect your speakers with. At 4 Ohms, a single track requires 450 watts RMS to work.

The amp is reader-supported and costs £199, although it may have been £150 or even less. It also has a two-channel 70 W along a four-channel 40 W RMS., and I guess these handy features would have cost much more because of the hefty features.

Besides, it has a compact chassis made of metal, and a dual-fan forced air cooling with different topologies for power and signal paths auto-on based on signal sensing. Twin high and low pass crossovers a black piano section with a brushed aluminum logo with their slopes and frequency settings.

A four-channel automobile audio amplifier features separate high-pass and low-pass crossovers. Moreover, it includes a cast aluminum chassis, RCA inputs, RCA outputs or speaker-level input, signal-sensing power-on, and high-quality circuitry for a signal-to-noise ratio of 100 dB.

You don’t have to remove any seats while laying an RCA wire and power switching cable with this amp. Additionally, good RCA inputs may help you save a lot of money. With this amp, you will never have to go through any hassle.

If you are among budget builders and want a high-fi sound system, then the Pioneer GM-A6704 is a great option. It can deliver more power than any high-end 1000 watt amp.

This amp delivers power short of the one mentioned. It is a four-channel Class A-B amplifier with a 1000 W stated output.

Furthermore, the dimensions are slightly large, so consider how much space you have in your car before ordering this amp. Again measures 14 inches long, 8.5 inches broad, and stands 2.4 inches tall.

If you look at the left side of this amplifier, you will find high and low-level inputs, gain knobs (for A and B channels), low-pass and high-pass selectors. Besides, it also has an input/mode selector (2ch/4ch), high-pass dial (for the A channel), and bass boost for the B channel at the exact location.

On the other hand, if you look at the right side, you will notice Two 25A fuses, power and ground connectors, and four-speaker terminals. This amplifier has high speaker level inputs and low-level inputs (RCA). Additionally, you don’t need to purchase any extra adaptors with this amplifier.

The low-pass filter (for the A channel) is fixed at 80 Hz, whereas the high-pass filter is changeable. The high-pass crossover frequency range is 40 to 500 Hz. The A channel has a bass boost option that can boost the 50 Hz frequency by 0dB/6dB/12dB.

We have another high power class d car amplifier of 1000 watt amp on the Infinity 1000 watt car amplifier list. This Infinity 1000 watt amp is a four-channel class d amplifier. The manual claims to provide a max power output of 1000 watts.

Besides having max power output, this amp has yet another incredible feature that no other car amplifier has on the list. This iconic amp is compatible with sophisticated ADAS and HALO Sonic technologies.

This amp is unquestionably one of our favorites in terms of design. You can see it as the Infinity logo appears at the top, whereas all inputs are on the left side. Besides, the plan is elegant and straightforward to own as well.

Although there are no high-level inputs (just RCA), they support high-level signals if you use the provided adapter and set the high-level/low-level switch. If you want to daisy chain another amp for the subwoofer, the amp also offers two RCA pre-outs.

There are also two high-pass/low-pass switches, a high-pass dial, a gain dial, and ADAS and HALOsonic inputs on the left side. On the right side, you’ll find all of the speaker connections, as well as the power input, ground input, and two 30A fuses.

Even though it has RCA inputs, it can handle both high and low-level signals (compatible with both signal types). For daisy-chaining, there are two RCA pre-outs. The amp also includes variable high-pass and low-pass filters (32 Hz to 320 Hz).

If you wish to change the low-pass filter, set the crossover switch to LPF, and if you want to change the high-pass filter, put the button to HPF. Adjusting the high/low-pass slider has no effect if the crossover switch is set to max power.

If your vehicle has ADAS or HALOsonic technology, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Infinity REF-704A is compatible with these systems. You won’t use ADAS and HALOsonic inputs unless you have this advanced equipment.

You can set the amp to four channels, three (bridged rears and stereo fronts), or two. Additionally, the advertised max power output is 1000 Watt, but depending on the fuse rating, amplification type, and Ohm’s law, it can produce up to 518 Watt.

RMS power outputs appear to be more realistic and accurate. This amp delivers 100 W per channel (at 2 in 4-channel mode), 70 W per channel (at 4 in 4-channel mode), or 200 W per channel (at 4 in 2-ch/bridged mode) in 4-channel mode.

Buyer’s Guide

Buyer’s Guide
Photo by Brian Erickson on Unsplash

Getting a car amplifier can be a hassle as there are a lot of models present in the marketplace. As investing in a good car, speakers are a once-in-a-lifetime investment; it is essential to take care of each and everything. This buyer’s guide will guide you through some crucial points to keep in mind while buying the best 1000 watt amp. So, let’s get started.

●    Advertised Power Output vs. Actual Power Output

You might have often seen that amps have their power written over them. Some of them might be 1000 watt or even more powerful amps out there like planet audio. But does the advertised power work or not? For this, we are going to guide you through some simple steps.

For this, you have to look over the fuse ratings. It would be best to determine the power output using the equation below. You’ll be astonished to learn that some low-cost 1000 W amps can only deliver 250 W.

And using this equation, you will get to find this that often. Those cheap amps will do the job, and you won’t have to spend a lot of money on those high-end amps.

●    MOSFET Power Supply

A MOSFET amplifier is a type of amplifier that processes digital signals using metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) technology with low power consumption. You can find MOSFET amplifiers in most automobile radios.

Look out for an amp with a MOSFET power supply amp to have minimum power consumption.

●    Variable Low Pass Filter

Have an amp having a variable low pass filter. Low-pass filters smoothen a signal by reducing short-term variations while preserving the longer-term trend.

●    Size of the Amp

Generally, if you ever purchase an external automotive amplifier, they might be a bit larger than those built-in amplifiers. To get the best from your amp, you have to look out for an amplifier that is small in size or has a small foot base.

You can find many amps in the marketplace having a compact size. Make sure that before you order any of the amps, try to measure the space available in your car, as you never want to have a large amplifier.

●    Sound Quality

Another essential characteristic of the amp to give the best sound quality is choosing the wiring to get along ideally with the amplifier. Most often, amps do not come with wires or other optional equipment. Usually, you have to purchase the wiring kit and other essential accessories separately.

You can choose between the two CCA (Copper Cladded Aluminum) or OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) cables. Both of the wirings are not very expensive, but at the same time, they do have a bit of a difference among them. CCA might be good but have a lower conductivity level. In contrast, OFC has a high conductivity power and works just way too well.

●    Number of Inputs

You must determine the number of speakers you intend to connect to the amp. There are many options available that might be used considering your requirements. For example, A 1-channel amp (Monoblock) will be enough if you only want to connect an external subwoofer.

For example, if you wish to connect two speakers plus a subwoofer, you’ll need at least a three-channel amp. However, if you are thinking of adding more than two speakers, you must look for a 2-channel, 3-channel, or 4-channel amp. So have your requirements at hand for the best 1000 watt amplifier.

●    Class of the Amp

You will find them in different classes if you go to purchase amps. They might be A class, B class, AB class, Class d, and many more. Every type has other things to offer. Before you purchase any of the amps, do consider your requirements accordingly.

The least efficient design, Class A, has the maximum sound fidelity. Class B design is more efficient. However, it will give you a lot of distortion. The Class AB design is energy efficient and produces outstanding sound. The most efficient design is Class D. However, it isn’t as high-fidelity as Class A.

We have mentioned some of the best 1000 watt class d amplifiers on the list.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.   Why would you need a car amp?

An amplifier helps you to enjoy high-quality music. An amplifier amplifies the low-level audio signal created by the head unit to make it powerful enough to move the speakers’ cones in the system and produce sound.

2.   What to expect when buying a car amp?

Look out for the inputs you need, the power, and the wiring system while purchasing your car amplifier. Besides, do keep the amp class while you are buying one, along with the size of the amp.

3.   Should you buy a mono, 2-channel, or multichannel amp?

The answer to this depends on what your car requirements are. A mono channel amp would work best if you want to power a single speaker; however if you’re going to power more than two speakers, lookout for a multichannel amp.

4.   What is a Monoblock amp?

Mono amplifiers do not have the same range as full-range amplifiers. Mono amps can’t recreate stereo signals because they lack left-right separation. Monoblock amplifiers have only one channel because of this. They might not be able to deliver power to multiple speakers.

5.   What class amplifier is best for subwoofers?

A class AB or D amplifier is the best choice for a subwoofer. When the kick drum kicks, the woofer responds thanks to a toroidal transformer and coke instantaneously can capacitors.

6.   Are dual amps any good?

DUAL amps are good because they deliver some of the best sound quality and easy installation. Besides, the price range is feasible as well.

7.   What is the most powerful car amplifier?

The most potent car amplifier will belong to class d and have a 1000 watt power. Besides, it will have enough ability and inputs to control 3-4 speakers at hand.

Conclusion

Choosing the best 1000 watt amplifier can be a bit of a hectic task. If you are a die-hard fan of some good music, the only way to have it is to have the best car amplifier. We have tried and tested some of the best models of amps for you.

If you’re reading this now, the chances are that you’re looking for a top-of-the line amplifier that’ll blow your mind with nothing short of excellent quality. Unfortunately products this good aren’t exactly easy to find on the internet. So, we’ve taken the time to do all the hard work and heavy lifting for you.

This article will review the best 5000-watt amps in a way that will help you choose the perfect one for all your needs. The below-mentioned amplifiers range from compact to robust, with all the necessary features you’re looking for.

What to Look For in an Amp?

what to look for in an amp

As you can probably already imagine, buying an amplifier is not an easy task. To purchase the best amplifier, you must first determine its purpose and use. Primarily, an amplifier catches a weak signal and converts it into the most powerful one. Overall, it is the audio system’s heart and it generates power for the speakers.

Many blogs and websites already give their own version of what the best 5000-watt amp is and that doesn’t make your search any easier. To show that we’re not simply pulling out numbers and products from thin air, we had to use a stringent set of criteria to select the best amplifiers to recommend to you. In that regard, we took note of the following factors-

Power Output

Amp is all about power. The power output of an amplifier is the strength through which you can draw out the music from your speakers. Prominent speakers and rooms require high-power amplifiers for great sound. So, we made sure that we didn’t select any speaker that had less-than-average power to meet your audio needs.

SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio)

SNR or signal-to-noise ratio determines the correlation between sound signals and noise levels. Ideally, an amplifier mechanism leads to unwanted background noises. This could lead to situations where you have to deal with disturbing noises when you’re using your amplifier. To make sure that that doesn’t happen to you after purchasing one of our recommendations, we were careful to recommend only amplifiers with SNRs of 90dB or better.

Crosstalk

The left and right combination means a lot when it comes to music. Crosstalk measures the amount of left signal that mixes with the right output and vice versa. It is the unwanted signal coupling within the channels of the amplifier. The greater the crosstalk, the worse the sound quality. We took note of this unique factor and made sure that we only picked products that have a proper balance in the left and right combinations as far as sound is concerned.

Things to Consider Before Choosing the Best 5000-Watt Amp

things to consider before choosing the best 5000-watt amp
Photo by Ksenia Kartasheva from Pexels

Nowadays, there are numerous amplifier models in the market. So much so that becomes challenging for a person to get the best 5000-watt amp, especially for a beginner in such a competition. You need not worry, as we are always there to help you. If you are still confused with the list of our best 5000-watt amp, you can select the one by exploring our buyer’s guide.

Specifications can help you a lot while choosing the best amplifier. But you need to note down those manufacturers’ estimates of those specifications in different ways. A clear idea about these calculations will help you shop for the most suitable amplifier.

Below are a few factors that will help you select the best 5000-watt amp for all your needs.

Sync Speakers

Before getting an amplifier, you must pay attention to your speaker’s sensitivity. It’s the measure of acoustic energy by a speaker concerning the electrical power supply. Say, if your speaker sensitivity is low, you will require more amplification for reaching the maximum sound level. Also, it’s important to look at your speaker’s impedance rating. If it’s less than four ohms, you should probably buy a high current amp.

Watt

Power is the most important specification you should look for while buying an amplifier. It is the total power that an amplifier puts out. This power/output is measured in watts, and it varies from amplifiers to amplifiers. While determining the amplifier power as per your need, always look for the manufacturer’s measurements. The two common measurements are:

RMS watts: RMS is calculated based on a continuous sine wave that measures the Root Mean Square (RMS) voltage at a specific point of affirmed distortion. Simply, it’s the average watts that an amp can deliver at a maximum. Manufacturers consider the RMS rating a bit realistic compared to all other measurements.

Peak watts: it’s the total amount of power an amplifier can immediately put out. Companies do not consider it practical as it lacks real-world measurements.

While comparing amplifier output, make sure that they are comparable. Comparing RMS output with peak watt is like comparing a mobile phone with a computer. If you can’t find the wattage type in the amplifiers marketing list, look for its user manual.

Amplifiers Mode

Scrolling through different power amplifier models, you will find that various amplifiers have per-channel power ratings. According to your needs, these channels work in different configurations.

Parallel mode: A single input source is combined with both the amplifier’s channels. The source transmits an equal signal to each of the speakers using outputs.

Stereo mode:  In stereo mode, the two sources, left and right outputs, get connected to the amplifier through one of the channels. Further, the channels connect to the speakers within their output connections.

Bridge mode: With bridge mode, you can promptly turn a stereo amp into a more robust mono amp that controls the power of both channels.

Universally, amplifiers specify intimate output running in bridge and stereo modes. If you are about to run the amplifier in any of these two modes, make sure you read the manufacturer’s manual to avoid any damage.

Class

All power amplifiers are rated following their circuit designs. For instance, you will find Class A, AB, C, D, J, etc., based on amplifiers’ design and formulation. Today, Class D is considered the latest generation amplifier. It delivers high value regarding its shape, size, and weight. Its power and efficiency control the temperature and make them more reliable than other amplifiers.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.   How many batteries do I need for a 5000-watt amp?

The number of batteries you need for the 5000 watts supply depends on how long you run the amplifier. However, you will at least need one 450-500 12V battery or two 210 12V batteries to outfit 5000 watts of power for 40-50 minutes.

2.   What is the most powerful amplifier?

As per our testing and customer feedback, QSC RMX 5050 5,000 Watt Power Amp is the most powerful amplifier.

3.   How many amps is 5000 watts?

You can get a circuit that carries 500 amps at 10 volts, i.e., 500*10 = 5000 watts. You can also have a circuit that draws 10 amps at 500 volts or even 100 amps at 50 volts. You are free to choose any one of them based on your requirements.

4.   What to do with old stereo equipment?

Old stereo equipment that is still running can be donated to a church or local charity. But if it’s broken, you need to dispose of it as per your state’s waste management laws.

5.   What is the difference between analog and digital sound?

Analog audio is recorded by converting the electric current into magnetic imprints within the magnetic tape. In comparison, digital audio uses bits to record various values of the sound wave.

These models come as close as you can get to the perfect car speaker system. Our top choices suit pairing with new car audio systems for the best result.

What to Look For in the Best 2000 Watt Amp

What to Look For in the Best 2000 Watt Amp

Power

Generally, an amplifier should deliver twice the speaker’s continuous or program power rating. For example, if a speaker has a program rating of 350 watts and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, it will require an amp with the capability to deliver 700 watts into its 8-ohm load.

Class

Power amps have a variety of circuit designs, categorized into class A, B, AB, and D. Class A, and Class AB amps dominate the market because they deliver the best sound quality. However, their components are large and heavy.

Class D amps produce excellent sound and power as class A and AB amps. They are far more efficient, also their size and weight are incredibly small.

Channels

Channels refer to the number of outputs that can link to an amp. An amp requires ample channels to accommodate the number of speakers in a car. Every speaker needs one channel.

If you want to power four coaxial speakers, you’ll need a 4-channel amp. But if it’s to power a single subwoofer, it’s best to go with a mono amplifier.

Sound Quality

It’s important to match an amp to the sound system it will power. This way you can have the best sound pairing for your audio systems. Some amps have high-pass filters, while others have low-pass filters and subsonic filters. These types of amps are suitable for powering tweeters or woofers. At the same time, there are those amps with bass boost, variable filters, and other features to suit customization purposes.

Buyer’s Guide

Buyer's Guide
Photo by Mpho Mojapelo on Unsplash

You now have the best 2000 watt amps on the market to choose from. Before you make your pick, Here are some features to look for when buying an amplifier:

●    Number of Speakers

Also known as the number of channels, it should correspond to the number of speakers you’ll be installing with the amplifier. If you need to install a subwoofer, there’s no need to go for a 4-channel amp. A monoblock is enough for your needs. But if you desire to upgrade in the future, you may opt for more channels to avoid going back to the store.

●    RMS Power

You’ll want to aim for a car amplifier that has slightly more power than you need. And while the max power output, you’ll also need to pay attention to RMS ratings. This number shows the actual watts that the amp can push.

Still, you don’t want to overdo it, because an overpowered 2000 watt car tends to overheat quickly. As such, it will become damaged in a short time.

●    Audio Filters

An audio filter is an electronic device that controls the frequencies sent to speakers. This feature is beneficial since it allows you to fine-tune the amplifier.

Audio filters can be fixed or variable. Fixed filters have one setting that the manufacturer predetermines while variable filters allow you to adjust the settings of the frequencies affected by the filters.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How loud is a 2000 watt amp?

The amp itself does not produce sound, but it amplifies the signals going into the speakers. Typically, a 2000 watt amp can reproduce up to 123 dB, a concert-level volume. But the average speaker is rated at 89 dB at 1 watt and 1 meter and is only about 5% efficient. So, even if a 2000 watt amp can produce 123 bB, the speakers would cap it, or you’d risk blowing the speakers.

2. How many amps do you need for a 2000 watt amp?

The actual output power of a car amplifier is its RMS. 2000W is only its peak output. So, divide the RMS by the average car voltage of 13.5 to give you the actual number of watts. For example, an amp with an RMS of 1000 watts would need 74.04 watts.

3. What size battery do I need for a 2000 watt amp?

To calculate the amps you need, use the formula; P (power in wattage)/ E (power in voltage) = I (current)

So, for a 2000 watts amp with a 14.4V alternator, you can calculate the current as 2000/14.4 = 138.8 amps.

Expert Tip

The key to the best car audio setup is matching the amp to the speakers you plan to use. Otherwise, if the amp is too weak or powerful, it could damage the speakers.

Did You Know?

Did you know that 90% of blown speakers are due to too little power? When an amp does not produce enough energy, it introduces clipping. You try to boost the gain control, but because the amp is not producing enough power, it fries the speakers instead.

How We Rated the Best

How We Rated the Best
Photo by Misael Moreno on Unsplash

We considered a lot of factors before rating these amps. These factors are listed below.

Power output

We looked out for the power output of the amp and checked if they really give out the required power as advertised. You are likely to be disappointed if you take the advertised power for granted. In most cases, 1200 watts is the max power output while the RMS rating is much lower. In some cases, some low-budget amps have a power output lower than the advertised 1200 watts. In some instances, some of these low-budget amps cannot manage 300 watts of power.

Crosstalk/Channel Separation

Because some of the amps we discussed are multi-channel, we doubled down on the issue of crosstalk since the channels are designed to be close to each other. The issue of crosstalk is significant in our rating because the more the crosstalk in an amplifier, the less pleasant its stereo system would be to the ear.

Crosstalk is an undesirable signal coupling between the channels of an amp. Though amp IC’s are designed to have the maximum separation of channels, external factors like power supply, design, and a host of others can introduce crosstalk and affect the sound quality of the speakers or subwoofers connected to the amps. The bigger the channel separation the smaller the crosstalk, and the better the sound quality of the amplifier.

Amplifier Class

The class of an amp is determined by the way it combines power and signals. There are four types of amplifiers available. They are class A, class B, class AB, and class D.  The best amp class to use depends on your needs. Class A amps give a high fidelity but low efficiency typically at 25%. Class B amps give low fidelity but high efficiency typically from 50% and above.

Despite the fact that no amp is 100% efficient, amps of class AB are seen as the best. With an efficiency of 60%, class AB amps are more efficient than class A and introduce less distortion than class B amps. Class B amps are also coming up as amps of choice because they have been built with more or less the accuracy of class AB amps.  Whether or not a product made it to our list of top-rated 1200 watts depended on its class.

Signal-to-Noise Ratio

All electronic audio devices like amps build up more or fewer interference signals. Coupled with background noise, this can gravely affect the quality of the frequency signal. Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) compares the signal power to the level of noise power. The higher SNR measurement indicates better output since there is more useful information coming out than noise.

CEA-2006 certification

Before rating a device, we check to see if it has a CEA-2006 certification. CEA-2006 is a car amp certification that makes it easy for buyers to compare amplifiers.  CEA-2006 is a car amplifier standard respected by many manufacturers like Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, etc. Even though CEA-2006 certification is not mandatory, it gives a good impression of how an amplifier would perform. Let me issue a disclaimer; not all good amps come with CEA-2006 certification.

The following is the list of our top-rated 1200 watt amplifiers.

1. Audiotek AT900

Audiotek At804S
  • Bridgeable MOSFET Amplifier
  • Tri-mode capable
  • Heavy-Duty aluminum alloy heat sink
Check Amazon Price

The Audiotek AT900S is a 2 channel Amp with 2 ohms resistance. The advertised power output is pegged at 1200 watts. This amplifier is a stereo amplifier because it is of class AB. It’s designed to carry out high-frequency sounds like treble or low frequencies like deep bass. depending on your speakers, it offers features like bass boost. After detecting the voltage of your speaker connected, it switches automatically.

The Audiotek AT900S has a dimension in terms of length, width, and height of 9.72″ x 2.2″ x 9.45″. The maximum power output is 1200 watts but when we tested it, the figure we got was awfully low, which stood at 172 watts. The amp comes with low-level and high-level RCA outputs so you can connect it to your head units without needing an adapter. The amp comes with a fixed high-pass filter (200Hz) and a variable low-pass filter between 35Hz to 160Hz. The bass boost knob is between 0 dB to 18 dB. The amp has a single 20A fuse which is a reason why the amp cannot shoot up to the advertised power of 1200 watts.

The Audiotek AT900S is likely to be better than your in-built car amp, but if you are trying to install powerful speakers, then you might probably have to look for different alternatives. but if your speakers are small needing anything within the range of 50 to 100 watts RMS, then you would probably be fine with this amp.

Buyer’s Guide

Buyers Guide
Photo by Dawid Zawiła on Unsplash

You can not trust everything that manufacturers say about their products.  For instance, the advertised power ratings on a good number of amps are false. This is why it is imperative you do a thorough investigation before you invest your money into any amp. Here are some of the key things you definitely should look out for when buying an amp.

1. Number of channels

Usually, your unique needs should influence the number of channels that should be on the amp you buy. You would be okay with a mono amp if all you want is to add a subwoofer to your car’s stereo system.

However, if you think your car’s audio system is a complete mess and you need to upgrade the number of speakers and add a subwoofer, that is fine. You can choose from 2-channel or 3 channel amp or even 4-Channel. It also bores down to the number of speakers and subs you want to add.

2. Power Rating

It is always safer not to assume that the manufacturer is honest. Go the extra mile to verify for yourself. I would teach you a quick formula for finding out the actual power ratings of amps. If you can do basic arithmetic, this formula should not be difficult.  Now let’s do the maths.

You can find actual output by multiplying your car battery’s voltage by the fuse rating of the amp as well as the efficiency of the amp. Normally, the average voltage from your battery is 14.4 volts. You can find the fuse rating in the specifications of the amp. The efficiency for analog amplifiers is 60% and that of digital ones is 80%.

Now that you know the parameters, never allow any manufacturer to deceive you.

3. Topology of Amps

Knowing the topology of the amp you intend to buy is key as it can determine whether your amps are efficient and produce high fidelity sounds or not. Class A amps are good with producing high-fidelity sounds but terrible with efficiency. Class B is very efficient but produces poor audio.

Class AB  is a compromise between class A and Class B. Class D is seen as the best in terms of audio output and efficiency. They are now mostly used in modern amps.

We recommend that you buy a class D amp if you want to add just a subwoofer to your car’s stereo system.  If you are looking for a multi-channel amp, we recommend class AB amps.

4. Inputs /Connections

Everyone likes an amp that would give them maximum flexibility.  That’s why you should check out if the amp you intend to buy has inputs for the devices you want to be connected to. Popular input you should check out for is USB for your laptops or home theater Computers. Others are a 3.5mm jack for your phone and for your turntables.

5. Total Harmonic Distortion+Noise (THD+N)

This is a metric for measuring the extent to which the amp affects the quality of the output frequencies. Is quantified in percentages. More distortion means poor quality of sounds produced. The general rule is to choose amps with a low THD+N rating.

6. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)

SNR is the measure of the ratio of background disturbances to the desirable sounds produced. Electrons that are whizzing around are the source of this background noise. The goal here is to limit this noise to the bequest miming so we can hear more of the desirable sounds. The general rule is to choose an amp with big SNR numbers. It is measured in decibels.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What size of amp do I need for the 1200W sub?

In matching an amp with a sub, it is preferable for the former’s RMS rating to be lower than the latter. In this case, anything less than 1000w amp would do.

Conclusion

Many of the latest cars come with some pre-installed amps. But some of these amps might not give you the right performance you want. Replacing them in this case comes naturally. However, choosing an amp for your car is no mean task. Several articles on the web further complicate the process because they do not cut through the chase. This article has discussed relevant information that would help you make an informed choice when buying a 1200 watts amp.

Expert Tip

Don’t overlook the impact of bridging. Bridgeable amplifiers alter how wattage is expressed. You can link several amplifiers in parallel to multiply the wattage, but if you overload two or more amplifiers with the intent to quadruple the power, you’ll damage the equipment by overheating or overloading.

Did you know?

The first practical amplifier was invented in 1906 by inventor Lee De Forest. It was called the Audion Triode.
